Bornholm September 16th-23rd 2006

Bornholm is a very special danish island. It is completely different from rest of the country. First of all it is a rocky island, we do not have rocks any where else in Denmark. It is host to the largest waterfall. It has been occupied by russian troops. It is famous for its smoked salmon and herrings, all the artists like authors, painters and ceramists. And today they still have a competition in ploughing  the fileds with horses. The island is not very big, and a lot of people see it from their bicycle or walking tours. There is a lot of bicycle paths ans walking paths all over the island. To get there is not a problem either. You can cross the "Øresundsbroen" bridge from Denmark to Sweden and drive towards Ystad. Here you drive on bord the ferry either the catamaran or the normal ferry which takes a bit longer. They both go to Rønne, which is the largest town. You can also take an aeroplane to Bornholm or you can go on a boat from Køge to Rønne. This takes about 6 hours. When you finally are there all the problems start, namely to make up your mind of what to see. There is so many  things to see like lakes and plantations with rocking stones, and don't forget the four round churches. Half of all this type of churches are here on this island Bornholm.

The tour went via South Sweden

An accident had happened but we had plenty of time, so it didn't make us come too late to the ferry

These two watertowers are just when you enter Ystad

Here is the ferry landing with the catamaran

In this gas station we were supposed to pick up the keys for the house

And here is the house we rented for this week

The mailbox is beeing checked

Fine garden with table and chairs

The house from the backside

Inga at the front door

The loft where the staircase is leading to

Smart to build a staircase this way. Just start with the correct foot and in no time you are up. It does not take up a lot of space this way.

One of the bedrooms - the other has a twinbed

A look down to the point of entry

The kitchen

The livingroom with a dining table and a wood stove

Television section - quite cosy

To the right the bathroom with a lot of cabinetes

Bornholm's Statue of Liberty with the text:" The people broke the foreign yoke - here where the rock is breaking water. Free born families have common language - still Bornholm is Denmark's Island."

Around the remains there are a lot of sheep - they keep the grass down and these saves money for maintenance

Here is the part of the remains and you see the sheep on the hillside

In the background "Hammerknuden" a very big area where you can walk - there are paths through the whole area

Here is Eyvind from his backside

All the previous photos are from Hammershus - the castle ruin
